The Academia Hispano Americana opened its doors to the public in 1959, and is proud to have been the first Spanish Language School in San Miguel de Allende to specialize in teaching Spanish as a second language.

Our school offers one of the most comprehensive Spanish Language Immersion Programs in the state as well as a Diploma in Spanish as a Second Language.  In addition to our Intensive Spanish Program, we offer 2 Semi-intensive Programs and One on One Spanish to foreign students from around the world.

Studying with our team of experienced Mexican instructors and living with a Mexican host family will allow you to use and experience the Spanish Language on a full-time basis while learning about the Mexican culture in a proactive way.

Our experience in teaching Spanish for almost 60 years has allowed us to continually update our Programs with the latest techniques in foreign-language instruction. We believe that our Spanish students need to use the Four Language Skills from day one: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. To achieve this, we use a student-centered methodology in a dynamic and interactive atmosphere in which no other language but Spanish is used.

To complement our morning Spanish Programs, in the afternoons we offer  a series of Spanish-language Workshops as well as Seminars on the Mexican Culture and the cultures of Hispanoamérica. Conducted entirely in Spanish, these courses allow our students to continue to be exposed to the Spanish language for the rest of the day while they listen to and speak the language in a context that is meaningful and informative.

The Academia’s aim is to have you speaking Spanish effectively among native Spanish-speakers anywhere in the world, whether it be in a professional or an informal environment.

Housed in a magnificent 18th century Colonial building, our school is comprised of 9 classrooms, a central patio and beautiful gardens. We are located in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, 3 and ½ blocks from the main square.
